Since I was a small child I have been an animal lover. When I was 12 my family got our first dog, a boxer named Luna. She was my first heart dog and inspired my passion for training. In 2011, my husband Matthew and I adopted Lilly, a Labrador Retriever mix who was found on the side of the road at 8 weeks of age. Living and working with her motivated me to learn more about animal behavior and how to help those with behavioral problems. Currently, Lilly, Matthew and I also share our home with a cat named Ivy, Matthew’s explosive detection dog, a German Shepherd Dog named Riki, and our newest addition, a Belgian Shepherd named Walrus.

I began working as a dog trainer in March of 2014 while pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota. I went on to earn my Master’s in Clinical Animal Behavior from the University of Lincoln in the UK. And in 2020 I founded Calm Companions Animal Behavior and Training LLC to better serve my clients by providing a range of services.

Using positive reinforcement training and behavior modification techniques based on the most up to date science, I will work with you, your family, and your pet to help you find harmony. My goal is to help you enjoy a full and happy life together by establishing clear expectations, building positive trusting relationships, and ensuring open communication between you and your pet.
LUNA
My first heart dog and the one who inspired my love of training. Luna crossed the rainbow bridge at 11.5 years old in 2015.

LILLY
Our first dog together. Lilly is a lab mix who lives for her ball and a game of fetch, even better if there is water involved! She also enjoys chasing squirrels, taking up more than her fair share of the bed, and eating her veggies, including carrots and lettuce. Her oddities are what drove me to study animal behavior.
REMY
Remy was Matthew's first K9 partner at the Mall of America. A German Shepherd Dog/Malinois mix, Remi is a true working dog. Due to a reorganization, Remy was sold and while we would have loved to have purchased him, it would not have been fair to force him to retire so young. He has settled in to his new family well and is working for the Milwaukee Police Department.

RIKI
Riki is Matthew's current partner. An explosive detection dog, they work together to ensure concerts, events, and air freight are safe. Riki is a massive German Shepherd Dog weighing in at 85 pounds of lean muscle. He is also the biggest goober you will ever meet, regularly tripping over his own tail.
IVY
We adopted Ivy in the summer of 2020 after she was found as a stray in South Dakota. She adds just the perfect amount of chaos to our home.

Ivy enjoys chasing the dog's tails, pouncing on our feet, launching sneak attacks, and sleeping on her cat tree.

WALRUS
Walrus is a working line Belgian, or Tervuren, born on May 17, 2021 in Austin, Texas. He is is smart, feisty, and loves to snuggle. And while some days he still chooses anarchy, much to our delight, he is slowly maturing out of adolescence.

Walrus loves fetch, training, chasing squirrels and rabbits, playing in the snow, and laying around outside in below freezing temperatures. But his absolute favorite activity is playing tug.
